Android P Launches Today In Public Beta And Here Are Its Compatible Devices

If you were wondering when you’d be able to try all the new features Google is announcing for Android P, it turns out you won’t have to wait long at all. At its I/O developer conference, the company said a public Android P Beta would be available today.


Android P already had a developer preview that was a bit of a hassle to install and didn’t include many new features. This beta includes a litany of updates, including new gesture-based controls, improved volume settings, smarter automatic brightness, AI-powered battery improvements and more.


The beta version for Android P, users will be able to sign up with this link. Customer with Google-made phones are in for a treat as the beta version is made mostly for them: If you have a Pixel phone, the process is as easy as heading over to the Android Beta Program website and signing up for access to pre-release versions of Android P that will be updated over the next few months. Make sure you’re signed into Google with the account tied to the phone you’ll be using. After you register, you’ll get a notification on your device about a system update being available. That’s Android P! Usually, it doesn’t take long to get that notification but since a lot of people rushing in install the new update today, you might consider waiting a little bit to get yours done. The company also added that Android P would be available for testing on flagships from seven other companies – OnePlus, Essential, Vivo, Nokia, Sony, Oppo, and Xiaomi – most of them as soon as today. So far these are the compatible models:



  • All the Google Pixel phones

  • Essential PH-1

  • Nokia 7 Plus

  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 S

  • Oppo R15 Pro

  • Sony Xperia Z2

  • Vivo X21UD

  • Vivo X21

All of these phones can download and flash the beta right now, though be sure to read the fine print before installing. Most of the devices can’t download the beta via an over-the-air update, for example. You may have to wipe your device and flashing the Android P image manually. The company says that “OnePlus 5/5T users , “we’ll have something nice lined up for you later this year” in a forum post. And OnePlus 6 has announced that the newly-launched Android P public beta will be available on the OnePlus 6 on launch day.  The firm also said that it"s created Team FSE (fast, smooth, efficient) in a bid to ensure that OnePlus devices offer the ""fastest and smoothest user experience available."
