Google Station Free Wi-Fi Launches In Nigeria Plus other announcements At The Google For Nigeria Event

Good news for Nigerians. Google Station, the web giant’s public Wi-Fi service, has gone live in Nigeria. As it has done in four other countries—India, Indonesia, Mexico and Thailand—where the service has been launched, Google will partner with local service providers for infrastructure and locations while it offers a cloud-based platform and devices to provide and manage hot-spots. The Wi-Fi service is not the Google’s first internet access-focused initiative in Africa. In Ghana and Uganda, it has launched Project Link through which it builds fiber-optic networks to help local internet service providers and mobile operators provide faster broadband. The company is also in talks with telecom operators in Kenya to launch Project Loon, an ambitious plan to beam internet to users using solar-powered high-altitude balloons. Swift Networks Launches Free Internet Service Called ‘Red Cheetah’

Nigerian broadband service provider Swift Networks has launched Red Cheetah, a free broadband Wi-Fi service, in Lagos and subsequently plans to expand across Nigeria and Africa. Charles Anudu, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Swift Networks, said at a media launch that the company has been working on Red Cheetah for the past two years. And they have kept it on wrap until a good product is ready to be unwarped and he also added that Red cheetah hopes to its deepen internet penetration and also has plans to increase the broadband drive in Nigeria. He added: “ In Nigeria, most people don’t have internet and unfortunately the people who do not have this internet are those who need it the most. Facebook’s Express Wi-Fi Now Has Its Own Android App

Facebook Express Wi-Fi now on Android  Facebook now has an app that lets people in developing countries pay for Wi-Fi. The social media giant has launched an Express Wi-Fi app and is on Google play store which will go along with its distributed Wi-Fi network and is currently working Indonesia and Kenya. “Facebook is releasing the Express Wi-Fi app in the Google Play store to give people another simple and secure way to access fast, affordable internet through their local Express Wi-Fi hotspots,” the company said in a statement to TechCrunch. The internet access app will provide users a way to buy data packs and find nearby hotspot more easily. Previously before the app, users will have to open a their device web browser or download a app from a local telecom company which will  substitute, but they have to configure their device setting just gain access and it is still difficult for users to find exact spot the hotspot were located.
