Apple iOS 12: Major Update Now Officially Available For Download

Image
What a week! Maybe you, like us, are clinging to your wallet with all your strength, trying to save up 100,000 pennies (or a few less) for one of the new iPhones announced this week or you are probably trying to figure out when to download the most anticipated software IOS 12 on your device —think no far! After months of public betas, the final version of iOS 12 is now available and ready for download. It comes with new features like Screen Time, a revamped Photos app, new Animoji and Siri Shortcuts, grouped notifications, an AR app called Measures, as well as major performance improvements that increase the speed and responsiveness of your devices. And later this fall, you"ll be able to FaceTime with up to 32 people at once. (Which sounds pretty overwhelming, but OK.) First, make sure your device is capable of running iOS 12. Like iOS 11, iOS 12 is only compatible with 64-bit devices — which means 32-bit devices like the iPhone 5 won’t be able to run the update. Here ...

Apple Is Giving New iCloud Subscribers 200GB Of Space For Free For Two Months

Image
In a move designed to drive iCloud storage subscription upgrades, Apple is now promoting free 200GB of iCloud storage space on a trial basis for 2 months to customers upgrading to a new iPhone—By offering 200GB of storage space on iCloud, Apple is hoping to make it easier for users switching from an Android device to an iPhone to easily move their data to Apple’s ecosystem. By default, an iCloud account comes with a measly 5GB of free storage space. As this offer will be presented to iPhone upgraders, the idea behind this marketing move is that customers can use this 200GB bucket to ensure their current phone data is safely backed up. Then, you can simply sign into iCloud on the new phone and have everything get sucked up. Note that the financial value of this offer isn’t that fantastic. Since May, Apple started offering 30 day free trials for all new subscriptions to iCloud paid tiers . So, in reality, what customers get for free here is an additional month, which usu...

Apple Now Offering One Free Month Of Upgraded iCloud Storage Plans

Image
One of the most frustrating things about being an iPhone owner is the lack of expandable storage. Once you have gotten the model of your choice, be it 32GB, 64GB or 256GB, you’re stuck with that storage until you buy a new phone. And Of course, you can also compensate the non-expandable storage with iCloud, but Apple only provides 5GB of cloud storage for free. If you want an amount that you can actually use, you’ll have to pay a monthly fee of $0.99 or more in order to access it. Most iPhone users are already familiar with the word “You do not have enough space in iCloud to backup your iPhone” message, which seems to pop up most times as a reminder. And users have long complained about the lack of free iCloud storage but now the company appears to be taking one step in the right direction. However, the recent development is that when users choose to upgrade from the 5GB free tier, they will receive the first month of their new tier for free.  As first noted...

Google News a real-time, “360 degree view” of news stories and topics. Announced as part of the Google I/O conference last week, the company made its plan known of the removal of the Google play newsstand app and replace it with Google News app . Google News app utilises real-time artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to analyse and organise breaking news. The new version of its News app is now available for iOS and Android devices in 127 countries. The app opens with a "For You" section that offers a brief overview and like other curation-based apps, it brings you a brief look at five stories based on your past reading interests; this is a combination of top headlines, local stories, and topics that Google has detected an interest in on your part. Using machine learning capabilities, the app helps analyse the headlines and puts stories about the same subject matter together into "newscasts." This helps you quickly get up to date about a particular stor...

Google Assistant Comes To The iPad

Image
Google Assistant is rolling out today on iPad, enabling users to control features on their devices like calls, texts, reminders and smart home among others. The assistant was launched on iOS at Google I/O 2017, just after its launch on the Android powered Google Pixel phone. When you ask the Google Assistant to make a call, it will pull that data from your iOS Address Book, after you approve it to do as such. It likewise can enable you to write emails, answer your questions based on Google Search and set reminders for you. The experience though if you already use it on an iPhone shouldn’t be all that different from the new iPad with the exception of the big screen and multitasking which is exclusive to iPads. Now that Google extended the competition to another iOS powered device, it will still find it difficult to beat Apple on its turf. Siri can be accesses by the push of a button while rival applications will only be launched by opening the app. When Google Assistant first launc...
