Google Assistant Now Helps You Compare Ride-hailing Prices And Summon A Car

Image
Looks like giving Google Assistant a redesigned UI wasn’t enough for Google this week, as it’s giving its digital assistant another feature to add to the roster. Google Assistant can now help you book a ride-hailing service and get a car sent your way, but it’ll still need some help at the end. You can start things off with your voice easily enough, and Google Assistant will show you the information from within the app itself, rather than forcing you to switch to Google Maps to show off the pertinent details.           Just say something like, “Hey Google, book a ride to” and inform the digital personal assistant of your destination. Once that’s done it will show you ride-hailing prices so you can compare before you summon a car. Those price estimations will show what Uber, Lyft, GO-JEK, Ola, Grab, and “many more” services, and the feature will show wait times for each of those options as well....

You Can Now Use Google Maps With Apple’s CarPlay In iOS 12

Image
Over the years, Apple CarPlay has been a must-have car tech feature for iPhone users. But for those without inbuilt sat nav in their car’s infotainment system, it’s also been somewhat frustrating, as it has only supported the proprietary Apple Maps nav. No longer. After confirming it will now allow third-party navigation apps within Apple CarPlay at its World Wide Developer Conference in June. As of September 17th at 6pm when the iOS 12 went live, now the firm has confirmed the software update that will provide iPhones with the functionality to do this has, gone live and is available for installation. Google Maps Location Sharing Now Also Shares Your Phone’s Battery Life

Image
Google has been rolling out features  for its Google Maps over the past few weeks, but recently android police has spotted something new. If you try to ping someone’s location and their phone is dead, there’s not much an app can do. Most location-sharing apps will just sit there and spin while they wait for some sort of response, leaving you to worry about all the reasons their phone might not be responding with a current location. Did they lose signal? Did someone steal their phone? Now when you let a friend know where you are through the Google Maps app, another icon is included with your location information and battery level details. "You"ll be able to keep a watchful eye on how much battery life they have left. Now, there won"t be as much cause for worry if someone"s location drops off because you"ll be able to know if it could just be because their phone died," the report added. Early in 2017, Google added a feature to Google Maps that lets you opt...

Uber Booking Has Been Removed From Google Maps For Android

Image
Google has offered one of the easiest ways to book an Uber ride—until now. The tech giant has quietly removed Uber ride booking from its Google Maps app on Android, CNET reported. When you try to book a ride in Google Maps now, you’ll get a price range from Uber, Lyft, and other ride-hailing services, but you won’t actually be able to book your Uber ride inside the app In 2017, Uber acquired the ability to book rides in the Google Maps app by pulling up the account window and signalling the ride without any need to launch the Uber app, saving users time from hopping between app. Now, the feature gone from both the Android and iOS versions of Google Maps. Google Maps" support page has been updated to reflect the change, but provides no explanation on why the feature was removed, but help page said: “You can no longer book Uber rides directly in Google Maps. Apple CarPlay: iOS 12 Will Finally Let You Use Google Maps, Waze

Image
Since Apple CarPlay launched in 2014, Apple iOS users have been forced to use Apple Maps for navigation. That will finally change with iOS 12, which allows users to pick whatever third-party mapping apps they wish to use for navigation. Apple announced that iOS 12 would bring third-party navigation support to Apple CarPlay and briefly displayed CarPlay dashboard interface with new icons for Waze, Google Maps and Chinese navigation app Autonavi Navigation. It"s unclear whether these will be the only apps supported, but that"s a solid third-party starting roster. Apple CarPlay is automotive integration software that allows users to interact with supported applications for audio streaming, communication and, of course, navigation on the dashboard displays of compatible cars. The app is  an Apple’s in-car interface for iOS. In many new cars — or older cars with newer head units — you can plug in an iPhone (or Android phone) and have a version of the phone’s apps...
