Microsoft Mulls Launching Its Movies & TV App On iOS And Android

Image
Microsoft may soon extend its Movies & TV app beyond the Windows 10 hub. “Microsoft is building these apps to give consumers more of a reason to buy content in the Microsoft Store”.  According to a report by Windows Central . “Lots of people buy digital movies and TV content, and Microsoft has a huge store that a lot of people seemingly ignore or don’t know about because there is no mobile companion app for their phone,” the report added. Last June, Microsoft shut down its Groove Music service after announcing a partnership with the music streaming platform Spotify . The company requested its customers to transfer everything they had saved, downloaded and playlists they had created on Groove to Spotify, media reported. But the company did not touch the “Movies & TV” app then. The Microsoft Store has an impressive collection of films and TV shows available to buy, including many that aren"t available via streaming services, but until...

Microsoft Edge For iOS And Android Now Comes With A Built-in Ad Blocker

Image
Following the lead of both Opera and Google, Microsoft has announced it is testing a built-in Adblock Plus integration in its mobile Edge browser available for both iOS and Android devices. Microsoft has already began rolling out the feature to those running the beta version of Edge for Android. Those using the stable version of the browser will receive the feature in a future update. Edge isn"t the first mobile browser to feature ad-blocking. Firefox for Android blocks ads in private browsing mode, and the privacy-first Firefox Focus stops them appearing by default. Google has integrated an ad-blocker into its Chrome for Android users earlier this year, although in practice it only prevented the most egregious ads appearing (including videos that play sound automatically and those that take up half your screen). Adblock Plus takes a far more drastic approach, putting the brakes on pretty much all advertising. Edge is a relative newcomer to Android. It"s been available on And...

Instagram Launches IGTV: New App Will Allow People To Post Longer Videos

Video on the app will be vertical and full-screen, and content will start playing right when a user opens the app. Co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom wrote in a blog post that: “It’s built for how you actually use your phone, so videos are full screen and vertical,” Systrom wrote. “We strived to make it simple, too. Just like turning on the TV, IGTV starts playing as soon as you open the app. You don’t have to search to start watching content from people you already follow on Instagram and others you might like based on your interests.” Product manager Ashley Yuki, who took the stage at the event also said: “IGTV "is an open platform from day one, so everyone can become a creator." also added that “The app ...

Image
Google has offered one of the easiest ways to book an Uber ride—until now. The tech giant has quietly removed Uber ride booking from its Google Maps app on Android, CNET reported. When you try to book a ride in Google Maps now, you’ll get a price range from Uber, Lyft, and other ride-hailing services, but you won’t actually be able to book your Uber ride inside the app In 2017, Uber acquired the ability to book rides in the Google Maps app by pulling up the account window and signalling the ride without any need to launch the Uber app, saving users time from hopping between app. Now, the feature gone from both the Android and iOS versions of Google Maps. Why Is Encryption Such A Controversial Subject?

Image
Many of today’s smartphones arrive out of the box with encryption functions. While that may mean privacy protections for smartphone users, it also means plenty of controversy over the use of encryption when it comes to hiding data from the government. Here’s why encryption is making headlines. What is Encryption? Encryption refers to scrambling digital information on phones, laptops, servers, or other electronic devices. On most smartphones, encryption means your photos, texts, emails, and other information are not readable unless you make them so by entering a password or code. Have you ever forgotten your password or mistyped it, only to have your phone or tablet lock itself for minutes or longer? The idea behind encryption is that it protects your data from unauthorized use. Unfortunately, that does not seem to make law enforcement officials happy. Encryption in Court While most people are probably more concerned with keeping their photos and text messages private for pe...

It was first announced by Google on March 7, 2018, and the first developer preview was released on the same day. Second preview, considered beta quality, was released on May 8, 2018. An operating system due to be out later this year, will have a new dashboard that tells you how often, when, and for how long you are using every app on your phone. It will also allow you to set limits on yourself. You could give yourself a half-hour of Instagram per day, for example. Once your 30 minutes is up, the icon will go from its usual eye-catching gradient to a dull grayscale. Android P also includes a new core interface th...
