Samsung Has Announced The Galaxy J4 Core, Its Second Android Go Phone

Image
With Android Go, smartphone makers have the ability to launch devices that hit extremely low prices thanks to lower requirements. Today, Samsung is launching its second Android Go device with the Galaxy J4 Core, and it gives users a slight spec upgrade compared to other Android Go devices. Back in August, Samsung’s Galaxy J2 Core was its first Android Go device. Predictably, it was a very low-specced device in every way. It had just 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a low-end Exynos 7570 processor, 2,600 mAh battery, and worst of all, a mere 5-inch 960x540 display. However, at under $100, it’s honestly not the worst device out there. At first glance, one of the most noticeable improvements with the Galaxy J4 Core compared to the J2 Core is the display. The bezels have been shrunk down considerably and the screen itself is a lot larger at 6-inches instead of 5. The resolution has also been increased from 540 x 960 up to 720 x 1480. Now, though, the Galaxy J4 Core has debuted (via W...

Worse, they informed users that they had until September 1 to upgrade: After that, classic Skype would stop working. The deprecation comes as the Windows operating system developer is consolidating its Skype development on...

Android Users Can Now Get YouTube’s Dark Mode

Image
YouTube confirmed back in March this year that it would release a dark mode for its mobile apps. The mode was actually released first for the iOS app even though many would have expected it to arrive for the Android version first. Last night, users on Reddit started reporting that the dark theme was being automatically applied to their mobile apps. Those who saw the change were also served with a pop-up informing them about the switch and the option to revert to the light theme. After 4 months, the company has decided to roll-out out the new feature to all Android devices. Like dark mode for iOS and the web version of YouTube, the Android version allows you to change the white backdrop into a dark colour and select their profile header. The dark UI is especially helpful during the night time as it reduces eye piercing glare, thus helping to prevent strain on your eyes while watching videos. The dark mode comes with a toggle that allows you to switch it off. As such there are no addit...

EU Again Fines Google Only This Time Its €4.3b/$5b For Forcing Phone Makers To Pre-Install Its Apps

The European Union led by its Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager has concluded an investigation onto what they say is an antitrust case regarding Android mobile devices which they say was designed to strengthen the dominance of Google’s Search Engine. It is because of this that they have fined Google a massive €4.3b or about $5b . [xyz-ihs snippet="EU-fines-google-5b"] Google they say has forced phone makers over the years to include its own apps in their devices and the EU has determined that this practise is unfair and has given Google an undue advantage over its competitors. This is the second time in two years that the European regulators would be slamming a fine in the billions on the American tech giant. Back in June 2017, Google was fined $2.7b for unfairly redirecting users to its own shopping platform before it gives others a choice. This means that Google was accused of relegating links of rival services to areas where users are less likely to click w...

Microsoft Edge For iOS And Android Now Comes With A Built-in Ad Blocker

Image
Following the lead of both Opera and Google, Microsoft has announced it is testing a built-in Adblock Plus integration in its mobile Edge browser available for both iOS and Android devices. Microsoft has already began rolling out the feature to those running the beta version of Edge for Android. Those using the stable version of the browser will receive the feature in a future update. Edge isn"t the first mobile browser to feature ad-blocking. Firefox for Android blocks ads in private browsing mode, and the privacy-first Firefox Focus stops them appearing by default. Google has integrated an ad-blocker into its Chrome for Android users earlier this year, although in practice it only prevented the most egregious ads appearing (including videos that play sound automatically and those that take up half your screen). Adblock Plus takes a far more drastic approach, putting the brakes on pretty much all advertising. Edge is a relative newcomer to Android. It"s been available on And...
