As Google has committed itself to becoming an enterprise technology vendor, it has followed a path it knows very well in pitching big open-source projects as the solution to the challenges of distributed computing. The company has announced the second of two partnerships that will allow it to offer the financial services industry and others a cloud-based platform on which they can develop and run blockchain-based applications. It is now confirmed, Microsoft say is buying code-repository platform, GitHub for $7.5b (about the same amount it paid for Nokia’s mobile business four years ago. Just last night, Bloomberg broke the news that Microsoft was buying coding platform GitHub . The formal declaration is expected later today though. According to the report, “GitHub preferred selling the company to going public and chose Microsoft partially because it was impressed by Nadella, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private information. Terms of the agreement weren’t known on Sunday. GitHub was last valued at $2 billion in 2015.” That said, it is also reported that developers did not take the news well as some have threatened to switch to a rival, GitLab. According to TechCrunch , Snapchat is preparing the launch of its first complete developer platform under the tentative name of Snapkit. French’s finance minister Bruno Le Maire has accused Apple and Google for imposing "abusive" contractual terms on French startups and developers. Le Maire told a radio station of his plans to take the tech giants to Paris commercial court , Reuters reports . The Stack Overflow"s 2018 Annual Developer Survey that was released yesterday indicated that Rust is the most-cherished (not most used) programming language by developers. This is the third year consecutively that the Mozilla-sponsored language has managed to retain the top position. After Rust, the next most loved programming language was Kotlin and then Python in third place. The fourth was TypeScript and the fifth was Google"s Go. Likewise for the third year in succession Visual Basic 6 positioned as the least loved by developers.
