Google’s Redesigned Account Hub Makes It Easier To Control And Search Your Settings

It seems that now more than ever, tech companies are paying close attention to user privacy and making it easier to adjust your settings.

Now, Google is revamping the Google Account hub page for user accounts, offering users a simpler and more intuitive interface that’s much easier to navigate. Now, you can quickly search for and review all the settings related to your Google Account.

For most who have never visited the account hub, might not know how important this update is. One thing is for sure, the new Google Account controls puts the bulk of your relevant data in one place, with a couple different tabs to handle different categories. You can see basic profile information, data and privacy, security, and payments settings all in different tabs.

The security and privacy items are probably the ones most important to you (as it should be) and after the implementation of the EU’s data privacy and protection laws, Google has made it easier for you to review and personalise your settings. You can choose what activity data you want to share with Google, what ads you want to see or you don’t want to see across your Google experience.

They will also send you notices and suggestions to improve your security. For example, if you haven’t been using a device for some time now, they’ll suggest removing it from your connected devices. Or if you have some unverified apps that you gave access to, they’ll suggest you revoke said access. These suggestions are important since you probably don’t think about things like these anymore.

According to Google, over 20 million people visit their account settings daily, but until now it’s been fairly complicated to find even a few simple option toggles. Now, the redesigned page makes your security and privacy options more prominent at the top, seeing as that’s what you’re going to be checking most often. Thankfully, there’s also a search bar so you can find the settings you want even when you don’t know where they are.

“To help you better understand and take control of your Google Account, we’ve made all your privacy options easy to review with our new intuitive, user-tested design,” Jan Hannemann, product manager for Google Account, wrote in today’s blog post on the changes. “You can now more easily find your activity controls in the Data & Personalization tab and choose what types of activity data are saved in your account to make Google work better for you.”

With the redesigned Google Accounts page, if you are not a fan of constantly your account settings, hopefully you should probably take a look at it and try to make your account as secure as you possibly can before something untoward happens. Better to be secure, than to be sorry in the end.

Google’s overhauled Account hub is now available on Android and will launch on web and iOS later this year.
